The Kora
How do you transport an instrument whose slightest vibration can have consequences ?
Any object destined to travel is exposed to vibration, impact, changes in load and repeated handling. The kora, with its fragile calabash body, sculpted neck and tensioned strings, allowed no room for approximation during international transport.
The interior was entirely sculpted around the instrument: a cradle that immobilises without constraining it, a rigid shell, and wheels ensuring that its weight never rests on the hands carrying it. The case absorbs the journey. The instrument remains unaware of it.
The instrument travels, its structure and voice remain intact.
